Environment and Water Bottles
Bottled water is considered environmentally unfriendly. Over 1.5 million barrels a year are used to manufacture plastic water bottles each year. Each year the bottled water cooler business consumes 140 million kilowatt hours of electricity, wastes 2.7 billion gallons of water, and dumps more than 35,000 tons of waste into landfills. It is estimated that 6 million gallons of fuel each year are used to power bottled water delivery trucks, which supply full water bottles and remove empty ones. Overall, the environmental footprint of bottled water is high. In contrast, bottleless water has a much lower environmental impact.
