Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Filtration

Reverse Osmosis water systems, more commonly known as RO water systems, do everything that carbon filters do, and more. They are especially good at removing dissolved solids, such as salts and nitrates, which might be able to pass through a carbon filter. On their own, RO membranes are great at removing dissolved impurities but not so good at removing organic molecules, so the best reverse osmosis water purifiers also have activated carbon filtration – typically, both a pre-filter and a post-filter. A reverse osmosis water system for purifying water is more expensive than activated carbon, and also requires a drain line, however reverse osmosis filtration is often the optimal solution when total dissolved solids are high in mains water.
